Hadde en fantastisk opplevelse med klatring opp og ned Romsdalshornet i helgen, med tindeveileder Ken Pettersen. En trygg og kunnskapsrik guide fra Breogfjell. Med godt utstyr, god informasjon før/underveis og mye naturkunnskap, ble turen både lærerikt og morsom.

Turen ga en enorm mestringsfølelse og flere fantastisk opplevelse på veien. Dette må virkelig prøves om man vil utfordre seg selv litt.

God fysisk form, nok vann, mat, solkrem, solbriller, gode fjellsko og klær etter vær er å anbefale. God tur ☺️

Fin tur på ca 3 km før du tar på stigjern og starter på selve brevandringen på Hauganbreen. Kupert terreng og god stigning før du når brekanten. Husk gode fjellsko og riktig bekledning.

We booked the Haugabreen glacier hike and highly recommend this company and the tour itself. Our guide Osa was great!

There is a huge glacier in Jostedalsbreen National Park (Breen means glacier in English) and it has many ‘fingers’ that come down into the various valleys. This hike is at one of the fingers of the main glacier. It’s not touristy and is an awesome adventure.

Be prepared, this is a tough hike and it’s best if you are in shape. You have to carry crampons, ice axe, and harness to the start of the glacier. The hike to the glacier is about 2.5-3km one way. It starts off flat but at the end there is a reasonably steep climb to get to the glacier. You can refill water at one of the many streams on the hike. There are cool plants like cotton and even one of the two carnivorous plants, see the yellow star shaped plant photo.

The glacier itself requires waterproof high top shoes, it’s surprisingly wet and good shoes will prevent a soaking shoe if your foot lands in the wrong spot (happened to my wife). Crampons are adjustable to most shoe sizes. I was a size 12 and didn’t have any problems.

We had our 12 yr old son with us and it’s a great experience for kids. He loves climbing the glacier and the chance to use an ice axe!

Communication from the company prior to the hike could improve. Meet at the Thon Hotel in Skei a little before 9am to meet your guide.

We booked a tour with Breogfjell Mountain Guides to go hike the Haugabreen Glacier in the Jostedalsbreen national park. The meeting point, where the guide picked us up at 9 AM was at the Thon Jølster Hotel. In total we were a group of 10, plus the guide. Together with the group we drove approx. 20 minutes by car to the starting point of the hike, where the guide handed us over the needed equipment (i.e. harness, ice axe, crampons and helmet). The equipment needs to be carried by each person him-/herself in the backpack.

The hike to the glacier is approx 2.5km, starting with about 30 min of relatively flat trails that cross some streams. After that, a section followed that was a bit steeper. Waterproof shoes are definitely recommended!

When we arrived at the bottom of the glacier at around 11 AM, we had a quick lunch. Then we geared up and started hiking. Our guide tailored the trip to the skill level of the group. On the glacier itself we spent approx. 2.5h.

I definitely recommend wearing some layers and bringing a bonnet and gloves (just follow the detailed packing list of Breogfjell‘s e-mails and you‘ll be fine 😌).

We got back to the hotel at 4 PM, just as expected. The glacier hike was one of our absolute highlights on our trip! I can highly recommend this tour company!! A big thank you again for an unforgettable adventure!

Walking on the Haugabreen glacier was a highlight of our trip, and we’re glad we found Breogfjell guides. The meeting spot was right on our planned vacation route, and the trek was epic. Our guide Gustav is the man! He was very knowledgeable and got us in the groove very quickly so we could enjoy the experience.

Wir hatten die 3-tägige Sunnfjord Haute-Route gebucht. Untergebracht waren wir mit unserem Bergführer in sehr schönen Hütten in Jølstraholmen.
Wir hatten einen sehr netten und aufgeschlossenen Bergführer mit dem wir viel Spaß hatten. Leider hat uns das Wetter etwas im Stich gelassen, so dass wir unsere geplanten Skitouren nicht wie geplant durchführen konnten. Die Alternativ-Skitouren waren aber auch sehr schön und eine wetterbedingte Flexibilität ist einfach Teil dieses Sports. Für die Verhältnisse hatten wir drei sehr schöne und abwechslungsreiche Touren! Vielen dank auch nochmals an unseren tollen Bergführer Njål für die schönen Tage und die Rettung meines Skihelms!
